Superfoil Insulation Portsmouth
Superfoil insulation services in Portsmouth
At Loft Insulation Specialists, we help Portsmouth homeowners improve thermal performance with correctly specified Superfoil multifoil insulation. In Portsmouth, many properties are Victorian terraces, inter-war homes, and post-war housing close to the coast.
Superfoil combines insulation, vapour control, and a radiant barrier in one slim product, achieving strong U-values in a fraction of the thickness of traditional materials. In Portsmouth, shallow rafters and limited headroom in older lofts make traditional insulation impractical, but Superfoil delivers strong thermal performance in a fraction of the thickness.
Our team regularly works across Portsmouth and understands how to specify Superfoil correctly in dense urban housing where space is tight and ventilation must be managed carefully. We offer free, no-obligation surveys and fixed-price quotes, so you know exactly what work is needed and what it will cost.

How Portsmouth homeowners benefit from Superfoil Insulation
These are the five key things to understand about Superfoil insulation in Portsmouth. They explain how the product works, why it suits certain roof types, and what to expect from a professional installation.
What Superfoil insulation is and how it works
Superfoil is a certified multifoil insulation that combines insulation, a built-in vapour control layer, and a radiant barrier in one product. Reflective foil layers bounce radiant heat back into your home, while insulated waddings trap conducted heat. It achieves strong U-values in around one-fifth of the thickness of mineral wool.
Why Superfoil works in tight spaces
Superfoil’s slim, lightweight design fits confined areas like shallow rafters, narrow cavities, or loft conversions without sacrificing headroom. It achieves maximum performance in hybrid systems when paired with other insulation, making it ideal where conventional materials would be too thick.
How we install Superfoil correctly
We fix Superfoil to rafters, joists, or studs using staples, tape, or battens to create sealed, compliant air gaps. The integrated vapour control layer minimises moisture risks. Correct air gap setup is critical—without it, performance drops and condensation risk increases.
Where Superfoil works best in Portsmouth homes
In Portsmouth, shallow rafters and limited headroom in older lofts make traditional insulation impractical, but Superfoil delivers strong thermal performance in a fraction of the thickness. We specify Superfoil for roofs, loft conversions, boarding projects, and wall upgrades where slim build-up and high performance are both required.

Frequently asked questions
Take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Superfoil Insulation services in Portsmouth.
Is Superfoil insulation better than mineral wool in Portsmouth?
Superfoil achieves comparable U-values in around one-fifth of the thickness of mineral wool. For Portsmouth homes with shallow rafters, loft conversions, or space constraints, Superfoil often delivers better real-world performance because it combines insulation, vapour control, and a radiant barrier in one product.
Does Superfoil insulation meet building regulations?
Yes. Superfoil products carry BBA and LABC certificates that confirm Part L compliance. We specify compliant air gaps and sealed joints on every installation in Portsmouth to ensure the system meets required U-values and passes building control inspection.
Will Superfoil cause condensation in Portsmouth homes?
No, not when installed correctly. Superfoil has a built-in vapour control layer that manages moisture from the warm side. We maintain ventilated air gaps on the cold side so moisture can escape safely. Because Portsmouth is close to the coast, we pay extra attention to air gap setup and vapour control so Superfoil performance is protected long term.
How long does Superfoil insulation last?
Superfoil lasts for the lifetime of the building with no maintenance required. The foil layers will not rot, sag, or attract pests, and the product maintains its thermal performance over 50+ years without degradation.
How quickly can you install Superfoil in Portsmouth?
Most Superfoil installations in Portsmouth take 1-2 days. Larger roofs, complex geometry, or hybrid build-ups can extend this slightly. We confirm timings during survey and provide a clear schedule before installation starts.

Most of Portsmouth is located on Portsea Island, off the south coast of England in the Solent, making Portsmouth the only city in England not located primarily on the mainland. The city is located 22 miles (35 km) south-east of Southampton, 50 miles (80 km) west of Brighton and Hove and 74 miles (119 km) south-west of London. With a population last recorded at 208,100, it is the most densely populated city in the United Kingdom. Portsmouth forms part of the South Hampshire urban area with Gosport, Fareham, Havant, Eastleigh and Southampton.
Portsmouth’s history can be traced to Roman times and it has contained a significant Royal Navy dockyard and base for centuries. Portsmouth was founded c. 1180 by Anglo-Norman merchant Jean de Gisors in the south-west area of Portsea Island, a location now known as Old Portsmouth. Around this time, de Gisors ordered the construction of a chapel dedicated to St Thomas Becket. This became a parish church by the 14th century. Portsmouth was established as a town with a royal charter on 2 May 1194. The city is home to the first drydock ever built. It was constructed by Henry VII in 1496.
Portsmouth has the world’s oldest dry dock, “The Great Stone Dock”; originally built in 1698, rebuilt in 1769 and presently known as “No.5 Dock”. The world’s first mass production line was established at the naval base’s Block Mills which produced pulley blocks for the Royal Navy fleet. By the early-19th century, Portsmouth was the most heavily fortified city in the world, and was considered “the world’s greatest naval port” at the height of the British Empire throughout Pax Britannica. By 1859, a ring of defensive land and sea forts, known as the Palmerston Forts, had been built around Portsmouth in anticipation of an invasion from continental Europe.
In the 20th century, Portsmouth achieved city status on 21 April 1926. During the Second World War, the city was bombed extensively in the Portsmouth Blitz, which resulted in the deaths of 930 people, and it was a pivotal embarkation point for the D-Day landings. In 1982, a large Royal Navy task force departed from Portsmouth for the Falklands War. Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia was formerly based in Portsmouth and oversaw the transfer of Hong Kong in 1997, after which Britannia was retired from royal service, decommissioned and relocated to Leith as a museum ship.
