Loft Insulation Havant
Loft insulation for Havant homeowners
At Loft Insulation Specialists, we help Havant homeowners cut heating bills with loft insulation installed to 300mm of Knauf Earthwool or Superfoil. Most of Havant’s housing originates from the post-war expansion, and the 1950s-60s two-storey brick terraces at Leigh Park dominate that housing stock. They have cavity walls and usually a conventional cold loft void above the top-floor ceiling. The pre-1919 cottages near the town centre and the Georgian properties at Emsworth have solid walls, which excludes cavity-wall insulation.
Up to 35% of a home’s heat escapes through an uninsulated roof. A free, no-obligation survey measures what your loft holds now, and you receive a fixed-price quotation before you book any work.

How Havant homeowners benefit from Loft Insulation
Every Havant loft insulation survey settles the same three decisions: whether the existing insulation stays, which material we install, and what happens to anything stored up there. Whether the existing insulation stays is the decision that determines most quotations at Leigh Park. The original mineral wool in those 1950s-60s terraces has usually compressed to below the 100mm threshold. The sections below explain each decision.
Keep the quilt that is there, or start again
Dry mineral wool insulation that lies flat and springs back when pressed stays in position, and we lay new Knauf Earthwool over it to reach 300mm. Damp, stained or compressed insulation comes out first, because fibres in that condition never recover their original thickness. The survey settles which applies to your property, and the quotation states it.
Knauf Earthwool or Superfoil
Knauf Earthwool is the standard material: mineral wool insulation laid between and then across the joists to a 300mm depth, with a 40+ year service life. Superfoil is the multifoil alternative for a property with shallow joists or a floor you want to keep usable, because it delivers the same thermal performance in around one-fifth of the thickness. Most properties take Earthwool, and the survey confirms which material suits yours.
Boxes, boards and the hatch
Boxes placed directly on the insulation compress it, and boards screwed directly onto the joists over 100mm of mineral wool compress it equally. We move stored items aside on the installation day, and where you want to keep the storage, raised loft boarding on stilted legs sits above the full 300mm of insulation. We insulate and draught-strip the hatch surround as part of every installation.
Common loft insulation issues in Havant homes
The original mineral wool in Leigh Park’s 1950s-60s brick terraces has settled within the conventional cold loft, and we usually measure it below 100mm. The 1970s phase at Leigh Park introduced largely flat-roofed properties with no loft void, which require flat-roof insulation instead of a loft-floor top-up. Emsworth’s 1960s bungalows have a loft floor equal to the entire footprint of the property. A bungalow installation requires additional material compared with a two-storey terrace. The pre-1919 cottages near the town centre and the Georgian properties at Emsworth have solid walls. Their roof forms vary, and the survey documents each before we specify a material.

Professional Loft Insulation service provided
A standard Havant loft installation takes 4–6 hours with a two-person crew, and we bring our own ladders and equipment.
We lay protective sheeting across the landing and staircase before the installation begins, and we contain the dust at the hatch opening.
Before we leave you inspect the finished depth with us, the eaves ventilation left clear and any old insulation bagged for licensed disposal.
How much does Loft Insulation cost in Havant?
Loft insulation in Havant costs between £600–£1,500 for a typical three-bedroom semi-detached home, or £15–£22 per square metre including materials and labour. Clearing old material with licensed disposal adds £650 where the survey identifies it.
A two-storey terrace at Leigh Park has a small loft floor area and, with an unobstructed hatch and dry insulation, usually occupies the lower end. A single-storey Emsworth bungalow has a larger loft floor area to insulate than a terrace of equivalent size, which positions it nearer the upper end. A pre-1919 cottage with boarding to lift costs nearer the upper end, because lifting the boarding requires additional labour. We confirm the price after the survey, and we add nothing afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions regarding our Loft Insulation services in Havant.
Can a grant pay for loft insulation in Havant?
Possibly. ECO4 funding is still available but in its final stage, and the programme winds down completely on 31 December 2026. It applies if you receive certain benefits and your home’s EPC rating is D-G. The 1950s-60s terraces at Leigh Park and the 1960s bungalows and terraces at Emsworth measure under 100mm more frequently than any other Havant property type. Both contain construction-era mineral wool that has compressed since installation. We’ll help you check your eligibility at the survey and carry out a funded install under the scheme.
Which Havant homes gain most from new loft insulation?
Leigh Park’s 1950s-60s terraces gain most from new loft insulation in Havant. Their original mineral wool has settled below 100mm, and the heating bill reduction is greatest when we install 300mm of Knauf Earthwool over it. Emsworth’s 1960s bungalows gain proportionally more, because their roof area is large in proportion to the floor area beneath it. The pre-1919 cottages near the town centre and Emsworth’s Georgian properties have no cavity to fill, which makes the loft their principal insulation measure. We specify the material and the 300mm finished depth in the written quotation.
Do I need to empty my Havant loft before you arrive?
No, not completely. We move boxes and furniture on the loft floor aside on the installation day, because the insulation runs across every joist bay. Anything on a raised boarded platform stays in position throughout the installation. Tell us at the survey what is stored up there, and the quotation allows for moving it.
What do you do with old loft insulation from Havant homes?
We bag damp, stained or compressed insulation in the loft and transport it to a licensed disposal facility. We never reuse it, because wet mineral wool does not recover its thickness once dried. Dry insulation in good condition stays in position, and we install the new material over it. Removal adds 2–4 hours to the installation, and the quotation states it before the day.
How do I arrange a loft insulation survey in Havant?
Request a quotation through the contact form or on 023 9326 7900, and we arrange a free, no-obligation survey the same week. The fixed-price quotation follows in writing. We cover Havant and the surrounding area, and our Havant service area page lists the neighbourhoods we cover for insulation work. Tell us when you book if your property is one of Leigh Park’s 1970s flat-roofed properties. A flat roof has no loft void to measure, and we survey it for roof insulation separately.

Havant (/ˈhævənt/ HAV-ənt) is a town in the south-east corner of Hampshire, England. Nearby places include Portsmouth to the south-west, Southampton to the west, Waterlooville to north, Chichester to the east and Hayling Island to the south. The wider borough comprises the town (45,826), the resort of Hayling Island, the town of Waterlooville, and the town of Emsworth. Housing and population more than doubled in the 20 years following World War II, a period of major conversion of land from agriculture and woodland to housing across the region following the incendiary bombing of Portsmouth and the Blitz.
The old centre of the town was a small Celtic settlement before Roman times and the town’s commerce, retired and commuter population swelled after World War II so as to be usually considered economically part of the Portsmouth conurbation.[citation needed]
