Loft Hatch Installation Havant
Professional Loft Hatch Installation in Havant
At Loft Insulation Specialists, we help Havant homeowners cut draughts and heat loss with insulated, draught-proof loft hatches, fitted across Emsworth, Hayling Island, Leigh Park, Bedhampton, Cowplain and Waterlooville. A poorly sealed loft hatch can account for up to 30% of household heat loss, creating persistent draughts and driving up heating costs. Our replacement hatches feature a 100mm insulated core achieving a U-value of 0.35 W/m²K or better, paired with draught-proof compression seals that last 10–15 years. Whether you live in a post-war brick terrace in Leigh Park or a harbourside bungalow in Emsworth, every installation begins with a free survey. As winners of the Best Insulation Installation Firm in Hampshire 2023 award, we bring quality workmanship to every Havant home. Call 023 9326 7900 to book your free, no-obligation survey.

How Havant homeowners benefit from Loft Hatch
The Havant borough covers a diverse range of housing, from coastal properties on Hayling Island to established estates in Leigh Park and period homes in Emsworth. Whatever the age of your property, an old uninsulated loft hatch creates a thermal weak point. Our insulated replacement hatches with 100mm core and draught-proof compression seals tackle up to 30% of household heat loss at one of its primary escape routes.
100mm Insulated Core for Effective Thermal Performance
Every loft hatch we install in Havant features a 100mm insulated core achieving a U-value of 0.35 W/m²K or better. This thermal performance is compatible with both Knauf and Superfoil insulation systems, ensuring the hatch works alongside your existing loft insulation. The insulation core has a lifespan exceeding 50 years, making this a lasting improvement to your property.
Draught-Proof Compression Seals Around the Full Perimeter
Our draught-proof compression seals run around the full perimeter of every hatch, creating an airtight closure when shut. With a proven lifespan of 10-15 years, these seals stop cold air from dropping through the opening into your hallway or landing. For Havant homes near the coast, eliminating loft hatch draughts makes a particularly significant difference to comfort.
Fire-Rated Hatches: 30 and 60-Minute Models
We supply both 30-minute and 60-minute fire-rated loft hatches for Havant properties where building regulations require fire resistance. Fire-rated models cost 40-60% more than standard hatches but are essential in flats, HMOs and properties undergoing loft conversions. We handle building control applications where needed as part of our installation service.
Standard Replacement and Enlarged Hatch Openings
We offer standard like-for-like hatch replacements and enlarged openings for Havant homes needing bigger loft access. Like-for-like replacements do not require building regulations, keeping things straightforward. For enlargements, we provide structural calculations to maintain ceiling integrity and handle any building control applications as part of the service.
Pair Your Hatch With Ladder, Boarding or Insulation
Many Havant customers combine their loft hatch with a loft ladder, boarding or insulation in one visit. A new insulated hatch with ladder costs between £600 and £850, with every installation including factory-fitted 100mm insulation and draught-proof compression seals as standard. This is the most cost-effective way to get a complete loft access upgrade.
How our Loft Hatch service works in Havant

Book your free Havant survey
Much of Havant’s housing went up in the post-war boom that more than doubled the town after 1947 — the two-storey brick terraces of Leigh Park, the suburban estates around Waterlooville — and many of those homes still close their loft on the thin, unsealed panel they were originally fitted with. Our free survey begins there: we assess the existing hatch, measure the opening and set out the replacement best suited to your property.
We then establish whether a like-for-like swap is enough or whether the opening is worth enlarging for safer, easier access — a common question in the tight original openings of Leigh Park’s 1950s and 60s terraces. Should enlargement mean cutting into the surrounding joists, the structural calculations are prepared and included rather than charged as an extra.
Your quote is fixed on the day of the survey, with no figures revised afterwards. It can take in 30- or 60-minute fire-rated hatches where regulations or the layout call for one — these run 40 to 60% above a standard model — and where the work needs building control sign-off, we make the application on your behalf.

On installation day the old hatch comes out and the opening is prepared. In Havant’s period stock — Emsworth’s Georgian streets, the centuries-old cottages around St Faith’s church, the conservation frontages at Warblington and Langstone — that first step is done with extra care to protect original plaster and joinery. Where the opening is being widened, we re-frame it with full structural support before anything new goes in.
The replacement is an insulated hatch built around a 100mm core, achieving a U-value of 0.35 W/m²K or better, with factory-fitted compression seals run around the full perimeter. Shut tight, it keeps out the draughts that maritime weather off Langstone and Chichester Harbours drives through a loose old hatch, and those seals are rated for 10 to 15 years.
Finally the frame is secured, trimmed and finished neatly, and the hatch checked for a flush, smooth-closing fit. The old panel, every offcut and all the packaging leave with us, so you are left with a tidy landing and nothing to clear away.

Professional Loft Hatch service provided
The draught stops straight away. That tells most on Havant’s exposed coastal edge — the harbour-fringe homes at Emsworth, the bungalows of Hayling Island — where winter winds off the water find every gap, leaving noticeably less heat escaping through the loft and a steadier temperature on the landing below.
A sealed, insulated hatch can lift an EPC assessment by 1 to 3 SAP points. That carries weight when you are selling or letting, and across a borough with a comparatively large share of social and rented housing — much of it in and around the Leigh Park estates — it is a worthwhile, low-cost gain where you let a property out.
And it lasts. The bonded insulation core is good for 50 years or more, the compression seals for 10 to 15 before they need renewing, and the hatch itself sits true in its frame — no rattling, sticking or sagging to contend with over the long term.

What does a loft hatch installation cost in Havant?
A standard loft hatch replacement costs between £250 and £350. A new hatch with loft ladder costs between £600 and £850. Fire-rated models are available at 40-60% more, depending on whether you need 30-minute or 60-minute fire resistance. Every quote is fixed after your free survey with no hidden extras. The price includes the hatch, frame, factory-fitted insulation, draught-proof seals, professional installation and full site cleanup.
How does an insulated loft hatch reduce energy bills?
Poorly sealed loft hatches can account for up to 30% of household heat loss. Our replacement hatches address this with a 100mm insulated core achieving U-value 0.35 W/m²K or better, combined with draught-proof compression seals around the full perimeter. By eliminating heat loss and draughts at this critical point, your heating system works more efficiently. An insulated hatch can also improve your EPC by 1-3 SAP points.
Can you install a loft hatch on Hayling Island?
Yes, we cover Hayling Island and all areas within the Havant borough. Coastal properties often benefit particularly from insulated, draught-proof loft hatches due to exposure to wind. Our hatches feature a 100mm insulated core and compression seals that last 10-15 years, providing effective thermal performance even in exposed locations. The insulation core itself lasts 50+ years.
Do I need a fire-rated loft hatch in Havant?
Fire-rated loft hatches are required in specific situations such as flats, HMOs and loft conversions where building regulations demand fire resistance. We offer both 30-minute and 60-minute fire-rated models at 40-60% more than standard hatches. During your free survey, we assess whether your Havant property needs a fire-rated hatch and handle all building control applications where required as part of the service.
Can you enlarge an existing loft hatch opening in Havant?
Yes, we can enlarge existing loft hatch openings where a bigger access point is needed. Enlargements include structural calculations to ensure the ceiling integrity is maintained. A like-for-like replacement does not require building regulations, but enlargements may need building control approval. If your property is in a conservation area, applications typically take 8-12 weeks. We handle all building control applications where required as part of the service.

Havant (/ˈhævənt/ HAV-ənt) is a town in the south-east corner of Hampshire, England. Nearby places include Portsmouth to the south-west, Southampton to the west, Waterlooville to north, Chichester to the east and Hayling Island to the south. The wider borough comprises the town (45,826), the resort of Hayling Island, the town of Waterlooville, and the town of Emsworth. Housing and population more than doubled in the 20 years following World War II, a period of major conversion of land from agriculture and woodland to housing across the region following the incendiary bombing of Portsmouth and the Blitz.
The old centre of the town was a small Celtic settlement before Roman times and the town’s commerce, retired and commuter population swelled after World War II so as to be usually considered economically part of the Portsmouth conurbation.[citation needed]
